Burglar Bill

 By Janet and Allan Ahlberg

When I married my husband, we had two books in common from our childhood.  First, the exact same Rupert annual (what are the chances?) and Burglar Bill.
The Ahlbergs are known for writing and illustrating "The Jolly Postman", "Each Peach Pear Plum" and "Peepo!" among others.  The art is detailed, often with sight-gags.  The story is pretty classic.  The writing is wonderful, but you have to read it with a full on cockney accent for it to work, and I'm totally out of practice.

Luckily my audience doesn't know any better.
This was always a favourite page, and it's my daughter's favourite now, too.  Look!  He stole a toothbrush!  and a chamber pot!

Hilarious.
